Thank you for choosing Huatulco (wah-TOOL-co) for your vacation/holiday! We are the proud owners of a completely furnished, fully equipped, 1 bedroom, and 2 bath luxurious condo/suite at Camino Real Zaashila Hotel Resort in Huatulco, Mexico.
Huatulco is a place yet to be inundated with tourism, a place still in its infancy of development. One of the first projects the Mexican government undertook was water purification and filtration in the entire Huatulco area. This means that visitors to Huatulco can safely drink the water and eat fruits and vegetables without endangering their health with the dreaded 'turista'
We spend time enjoying this beautiful place ourselves, but it is mainly investment property for us and we are in the process of booking rentals for our unit. In addition we are rental agents for a few other owners.
Camino Real Zaashila Resort is a five star facility and is very exclusive, definitely a class act. Camino Real Zaashila Resort's book rates for suites are presently $300-$500 plus 17% tax per night, which is more than double, that of our condo/suite rental rate. As Huatulco develops as a resort, and during peak season, we will rent our condo at a higher rate, but right now our rate is extremely low to encourage people to experience this beautiful place for themselves NOW. You will definite experience pampered luxury at an affordable price. Please share our information with other interested friends who may also want to take advantage of this opportunity. Since we are agents for other owners, we can often accommodate more than one party in different units at the same time and offer two bedrooms, three bath units that sleep 10 persons.
Our rates (subject to availability): $195 per night for one bedroom, two bath condo without splash pool or $215 for one bedroom, two bath condo with splash pool, during the high season of January 2-April 15, 2007. Today's rate is $840 per week for bookings April 15-December 16, 2007. One bedroom condos with splash pool are $20 additional per night. In addition there is a hotel service charge and tax which includes bottled water, daily cleaning, and change of linens and towels which must be paid directly to hotel upon check out. This hotel service charge and tax is approximately $265 pesos, which is approximately $24 each day. The Christmas/New Year holiday rate is $300-$340 per night, December 17-January 5, 2008. Easter week; (April 1-8, 2007) holiday rates prevail.
Secure your air tickets, (on 24-hour hold) and call us with date of arrival to Huatulco and return date. If condo is available, $200 per week will hold your reservation, which is non-refundable. The balance due can be a personal check mailed to me 30 days before departure. Let us hear from you!
INFORMATION YOU MAY FIND USEFUL DURING YOUR STAY AT CAMINO REAL ZAASHILA HOTEL RESORT, Huatulco, Mexico.
WHAT TO PACK: Huatulco's climate is very tropical year round. Dress is very casual day or evening. Leave jackets and ties and fancy evening attire at home. Pack cool and comfortable clothes. Swim suits, cover-ups, shorts, T-shirts, tank tops, comfortable shoes, tennis shoes, beach shoes or thongs. Hats or visors to shade the sun or you may purchase them in Huatulco. Get the picture?
A definition of dressed up in Huatulco would be lightweight slacks and tropical shirt for men or lightweight casual summer dress or slack outfit for women. You may want to bring one pair of jeans or old slacks for horseback riding.
Be sure to pack sunscreen, sunglasses, camera and film. It's hard to take a bad photo in paradise. If you own your own mask, fins and snorkel, bring them. They can be rented for less than 50 pesos ($5) per day. Tennis rackets if you're particular. Zaashila has good rackets you can use. No need to pack towels, Zaashila provides plentiful supplies. Hair dryers are supplied in all condos.
CURRENCY: Most everyone accepts U.S. currency and as a matter of fact prefers U.S. currency because the value is more stable. (Credit cards are accepted at hotels, restaurants and shops.) Mexican banks are located in Santa Cruz and La Crucecita are open 9 am to 5 pm weekdays. When the peso is actively fluctuating it may be worth your time to exchange money at the bank. The value of the peso changes often. Exchange rates will vary slightly from bank to bank but always better than at the hotel. (Bancomer Bank usually has the best exchange rate.)
THE SUITE/CONDO: This is your home to enjoy. Leave sign 'Privacy Please' or 'Favor de No Molestar' on outside doorknob if you don't want service. You will be billed daily either way ($265 pesos with service, $155 pesos without service). If you don't want service be sure to inform front desk in advance to avoid billing problems. (Camino Real Zaashila Hotel Resort will accept Master/Visa Cards). Look in the buffet drawer for 3 x 5 cards in Spanish (English translation on back of card) to assist you in communicating your needs to housekeeping. In the unlikely event there is a maintenance problem, please inform the front desk. The only way they will become aware of problems is for YOU to inform them. As owners, we have already paid for this service. Please use it, if you need it.
KITCHEN: Use any item you wish, but please replace if you use it all. Replace basics when they run out, and paper items and cleaning supplies. (Cleaning supplies are located under kitchen sink.) Discard any items in refrigerator that may spoil when you leave. Leave any items that will keep for the next guests.
Note: Boxes of unopened milk in Mexico have a 6-month shelf life. List of standard staple items, which you should find, is on the refrigerator door.
DINING ROOM: Buffet drawers have decks of cards, pens, paper, etc. and menus for some of the local restaurants. We suggest you dine at Zaashila restaurant, Chez Binni, the first evening, then compare prices and services with all the other restaurants. Room Service is available at Camino Real Zaashila. The menu has a variety of choices.
BEDROOM: Night stands & dresser contains first aid and toiletries. (Please replace if supply is depleted for convenience of next guest.)
BATHROOM: Hair dryers are provided, soaps, towels, etc. (Beach towels are provided at poolside for your convenience.)
DRINKING WATER: Some bottled drinking water is provided free and is included in daily billing. If more is needed, call housekeeping. MINERAL WATER IS NOT FREE. Be sure to specify. (There is a 5 gallon container for water in each condo. Instructions for refill are located under buffet glass top.)
EXERCISE ROOM: Stationary bicycle, stair master, tread mill, sit-up board, and multiple gym machine. (Room is located near tennis court.)
FOOD & WATER PURITY: Tourists in Huatulco seldom have problems with Montezuma's Revenge, so often experienced in other areas of Mexico. Nevertheless it's best to be careful. Drink, cook and brush teeth with the bottled water. Soak lettuce and similar vegetables and fruits in dishpan located under sink using Sun Smile Fruit & Vegetable Rinse or Clorox Bleach. These items can be found under the sink. Read directions on bottle for correct proportions.
TENNIS: Make court reservation at front desk. Ask name of person who takes your name & condo number. Pick up tennis balls and rackets at front desk. Ball boys are available for $50 pesos per hour. (Watch for insects, they hid in court surface, sometimes.)
SOCCER & VOLLEYBALL: Balls available at Front Desk if not on beach.
GOLF: Enclaved between the mountains and the ocean, one of the best golf courses of the Mexican Pacific. You can enjoy 18 holes, par 72 championship class with 6,851 yards. The number 13 beauty lies in offering a panoramic view of Tangolunda Bay. Call hotel front desk for discount rates and tee time. $550 pesos for 18 holes. Rent golf clubs for $120 pesos. Cart rent is $180 pesos and 3 days green fees and cart for $1800 pesos. (Prices are seasonal and subject to change without notice.)
WATER SPORTS: Check person(s) at Service Center/Land Services at the Pool Towel booth. You can arrange to rent a jet ski, kayaks etc.
For SCUBA: Huatulco offers 13 dive sites with its interesting coral reefs and fascinating diversity of marine life. Talk to Hector Lara Ocamp or his wife Gabi at the Leeward Dive Center at 958 58 72166. Hector's email address is <mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org>email@example.com
SNORKELING & WIND SURFING: La Entrega Bay is the best place. Rent equipment at beach or bring your own. Take a taxi ride, get round trip price. Taxi drivers WILL come back at the proper time. Don't pay until end of round trip. (There is NOT a phone at this beach!) Excellent snorkeling at San Agustin, the last bay. This can be included easily when you take a bay tour.
RIVER RAFTING: We used Huatulco Outfitters for our first trip. Water level was low and we didn't get wet or feel unsafe. It was a beautiful trip. On a rafting scale it was a 1. One being easy and 5 being the most difficult. Mario Cobos can arrange this trip for you at a discounted rate call Mario at 9 58 71833. ($30-$40 USD)
SHOPPING: La Crucecita (miscellaneous shops), Santa Cruz (tourist items at small Flea Market), Barcelo Hotel has nice shops and native crafts pool side on Friday and Saturday. Siesta time is 2pm-4pm daily at better shops. Mexican flea market for new clothing, hardware, etc. at outskirts of La Crucecita appears on each Saturday and Sunday.
DEEP SEA FISHING & BAY TOURS: Larger boats leave Santa Cruz early AM. English speaking Captains are available. Determine number of hours and price per hour before leaving. (Price usually $40-$70 USD per hour depending on size of boat and crew.) Bay Tours on the larger boats, like the Fiesta Huatulco or Tequila boats are $150-$250 pesos per person. They are more touristy party boats and sometimes crowded.
Isidro Cruz is an excellent fishing Captain! He is Spanish speaking and captains the small boat Paty. He has excellent fishing equipment and can be reached at his home at 9 58 71067. Isidro charges $1000 pesos per day for tours of the 7 bays or $1100 pesos with English speaking guide. (Mario can book this trip for you.) Price (8 person limit) of $100 USD for 3 hours, for deep-sea fishing and /or Bay Tour on the small boats. You pick your time schedule and activities start and end when you want. You can fish, snorkel and spent as much time as you want on any beach that you want. After you catch fish, Isidro will make ceviche for you and/or arrange to have your fish cooked at one of the beach restaurants. (Ice chest filled with soda, beer, etc. at cost upon your request.)
We suggest you call Mario Cobos at 9 58 71833, who speaks English and has answering machine if not home, and arrange any and all tours. Mario will save you money and you will have a good time too!
LAND TOURS: for side trips to Coffee Plantations, Santa Maria Huatulco, and other nearby areas of interest call Mario Cobos 9 58 71833. Mario speaks fluent English knows the area well and is a Mexican Certified Guide.
HORSEBACK RIDING: Rancho Caballo de Mar has the most scenic and personalized tour. (10 am or 2 pm. Departures.) This is a 3 & 1/2; hour trip with a break for swimming, eating and drinking. Bring your camera, sunscreen and towel. Wear your swimsuit under your clothes. Gym shoes, walking shoes or riding boots are best. Long pants or jeans are recommended, but if you forget them, know that you won't be the first tourist to wear shorts on a horse.
MOTOR TOUR: This is a 4-wheel motor cycle tour of jungle and beaches. It is dirty, hot and fast. We didn't like this activity, but you might. Horseback riding is much better for those interested in jungle and beaches. ($40 USD or less.)
MASSAGE: For the best rates on a therapeutic massage call Mario Cobos at 9 58 71833. Mention our name to Mario within 48 hours of arrival and get a FREE 30-minute massage (1 person per condo). Arrange a time and Mario will come right to the condo for your massage. (Hourly rate is $350 pesos; hour rate is $20 USD.)
NIGHTLIFE: For night fun you have a wide range of entertainment possibilities such as tropical shows, or modern discotheques with light, sound and video system. The Acqu Discotheque opens nightly at 10 pm and closes at 4 am. It is located at the Marlin Hotel in Santa Cruz and advertises live music. There are also a couple of bars on the town square in La Crucecita with disco or tropical music what are sometimes 'lively'
Guela Guetza is scheduled for Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday evenings at Noches Oaxaquenas (Oaxacan Nights) is Folkloric Dances characteristic of the 7 regions of the state of Oaxaca performed by dance troupes touring from the Folkloric School in Oaxaca City. Colorful, festive and well done. Show only, $100 pesos per person. Don Porfirio's also offers a dinner/show combination, which we don't recommend. Our experience, as well as some of our guests, has been that the quality of the food preparation at Porfirio's is marginal at best. Drinks are no problem!

A belated note to THANK YOU for sharing your lovely condo in Huatulco. I
had a great time and thought the area very magical. Mario was very helpful,
albeit we never made it out fishing, due to the summer torential downpores.
That didn't dampen any spirits on my part though. The landscape is very
interesting with the mountainous hills meeting the rocky coast--the trees
were starting to sprout new tender leaves after the little rainfall. The
flamboyants were in full bloom, and I had a fabulous meal of grilled snapper
at a local beach restaurant. It is a part of paradise! Gracias!

Just a quick note to let you know how much we enjoyed Huatulco...it really
was a taste of paradise and the Zaashila is a fabulous resort. We
definitely hope to get back again soon - already it feels like it was a long
time ago. Mario took us over to San Augustin beach which was absolute
heaven - he's a great guide.

Hello Phil and Diane,
It's been a little over a week since we returned from our honeymoon in
Huatulco (and Oaxaca) and I just wanted to thank you again for letting us
use your GORGOEOUS condo while we were there. It was absolutely fabulous
and we really had a wonderful time. We went on a couple of excursions with
Mario and greatly enjoyed them as well. We will be sure to tell our friends
about your place and also look forward to going back ourselves sometime in
the near future.
